Dashboards widgets are going to be the future trend. The above is a nice example of the dashboard portlets right on the PC desktop screen.
It is cool, but see lot of drawbacks. You can just have one view where as with a Dashboard inside the html or dashboard viewer you can have multiple pages as Tabs just like your browser. Plus, you need to keep your desktop clean in order to distinguish your dashboard-widgetsResources

Indeed the features you mention are very worthy, and are now integrated in the RTM released last month (dashboard tabs are called widget views). It is true that having a lot of widgets can be very intrusive and your desktop can become very messy. For that particular problem you can go fullscreen, this showing only your BI Widgets, hiding all other Windows content. This is also inthe RTM
